You've mastered beginner kayaking and want the next challenge

OOur Level 3 skills kayaking course works on refining Break in's/out's and ferrygliding so they work on the more powerful water and smaller eddies found on various rivers. In addition, we use surfing waves as a means to cross fast currents and we work on eddy hopping to scout what’s up ahead.

Where?It usually takes place on the Inny River in Ballymahon. But we can do this at many locations throughout the country.

Group Size:

There is a minimum group size for this of 4 people. We can cater for smaller groups but the cost per person is more expensive.

How Long?

It's a 1 day or 2 day course and will improve your skills on whitewater.

Come prepared to discuss your specific goals or trouble spots in your paddling. The more information you can provide the better the instructor can tailor your course.

Our Whitewater Level 3 skills course contains the following:

  • We talk about equipment selection: Kayaks, Paddles etc
  • We review basic strokes and techniques
  • We breakdown each of the strokes and techniques into easily understood parts
  • Talk about safety on the water: Weather, Kayaking Experience, How many people is safe
  • We cover the core elements of Trunk rotation, Body position and Active paddle position,
  • The more advanced techniques: Forward Momentum, Dynamic Paddling and the strokes from the syllabus
  • Wave and hole surfing, Fine tuning Break in's/out's, Ferrygliding, Teaching or improving the Eskimo roll
  • Irish Canoe union Qualified Instructor
  • Equipment we can provide:

  • Kayak, Paddle, Helmet, Buoyancy Aid, Cag, Wetsuit, Spraydeck
