Improve your whitewater rescue skills this year

WWater is dangerous if not treated with respect. When you mix ropes and the dynamic moving water environment it can prove to be extremely dangerous unless you know what to do.
This course is designed for people of all levels that wish to undertake relevant training in Safety and Rescue Techniques appropriate for water of Grade 2.
It is an ideal stepping stone for those people that are interested in taking more in-depth advanced rescue and safety training.

Where?It takes place on a grade 2 river. We use the Inny River in Ballymahon as our local run for grade 2 and other rivers throughout the country depending on course location.

Group Size:

There is a minimum group size for this of 6 people. We can cater for smaller groups but the cost per person is more expensive.

How Long?

It's a 1 day course that will introduce you to or brush up on your rope work and rescue skills.

  • Systematic approach to a rescue
  • Self-Rescue
  • Throwrope rescue techniques
  • Basic Hydrology
  • Dynamics of river features
  • Shallow Water Crossings
  • Defensive/Offensive swimming
  • Communication
  • Leadership roles and decision-making on a riverbank
  • Stabilisation lines.
  • Talk about safety on the water: The Flow, Hazards on the river, Weather, Kayaking Experience,
  • Equipment we can provide:

  • Throw Rope Helmet, Buoyancy Aid, Cag, Wetsuit,
  • Equipment you will need:

  • Throw Rope, 2 x Slings, 2 x Screwgate Karabiner, Helmet, Buoyancy Aid with Chest Harness, River Knife
