Improve your whitewater kayaking skills this year

KKayaking like everything else moves on and new skills, moves and techniques are developed. In this course we introduce you to some of the newer more progressive or dynamic paddling techniques

Where?It takes place on a grade 2/3/4 river depending on the participants. We use the Inny River in Ballymahon as our local run for grade 2 and other rivers throughout the country for grade 3 and 4.

Group Size:

There is a minimum group size for this of 3 people. We can cater for smaller groups but the cost per person is more expensive.

How Long?

It's a 1 or 2 day course depending on your requirements come prepared to discuss your requirements.

Here is some of what the Progressive Course contains:

  • We review your equipment for you and recommend and explain what else might be required
  • Talk about safety on the water: The Flow, Hazards on the river, Weather, Kayaking Experience,
  • We then introduce some newer progressive paddling techniques: Lateral Momentum, Body Tension, Positive Paddle Pressure, Active Bracing, Hip turns
  • We then show you what stroke/technique each of these new techniques replaces
  • We implement these techniques in: Breaking in & out, Fast Ferrys, S turns, 
  • Offensive/Defensive swimming and when to use them
  • Equipment we can provide:

  • Kayak, Paddle, Helmet, Buoyancy Aid, Cag, Wetsuit, Spraydeck
